| Problems reading files This is a bug in Internet Explorer, which, "amazingly", Microsoft haven't got around to fixing over the last two or more years (instead they expect every server in the universe to be adapted especially to suit them). There are two easy solutions. Either:
get a better, standards-compliant browser, such as Google Chrome or Firefox, or Opera or Safari. (However MS Internet Explorer is so ubiquitous that some sites are so adapted to it's ideosyncrasies that you may still have to use Internet Explorer for these sites); or
I get a screenful of gibberish (in place of the list of resources) when I try to read the .docx files. - This is fundamentally the same bug as above, but manifesting itself differently because of different settings in Internet Explorer. The first solution listed above works for this, too.
- Alternatively, if you can't download a better browser because of restictive computing policies, you could instead change the internet explorer options (Tools > Internet Options > Security tab > check internet is selected in row of zones > choose custom settings button > three-quarters of the way through the list find "Open files based on content, not extension", and select "enable". You will then still have to change the erroneous .zip extension back to .docx manually, so this is a less satisfactory solution than using a better browser.
